What a website costs, with the numbers in front of you

These are the real ranges — the same ones the estimator on the home page uses, and the same ones you will see in the proposal. No "contact us for pricing" and no price-by-phone: if the final figure does not look like this, something was explained badly at the start.

What it costs to build

Fixed price, in writing, after a twenty-minute call. These ranges are the starting point, and where your project lands inside them depends mostly on how many distinct templates there are and how much content has to be created.

What it isWho it is forRangeTimeline
Business website The normal case: present the business, collect enquiries $2K–$4.5K 3–5 wks
Online store Selling, with payments, shipping and tax $4.5K–$9K 5–8 wks
Portal or community Accounts, user content, forums or events $8K–$20K 6–10 wks
Web or mobile app A product that does something, not a site that describes one $12K–$28K 10–16 wks
SaaS platform A subscription product, with a dashboard and billing $20K–$45K 10–16 wks

What adds to it, and by how much

These are not bundles: they are specific pieces of work that are sometimes needed and sometimes not. They appear itemised in the proposal, with their own price, so any of them can be dropped without redoing the estimate.

What it isWho it is forRange
Custom visual identity When there is no brand, or the one there is will not carry a new site. $1.5K–$3.5K
Technical and content SEO Structure, structured data, speed, and copy written for the searches you want. $1K–$2.5K
A second language Not translation: a URL tree per language, with hreflang and content of its own. $0.8K–$1.8K
Payments and subscriptions Gateway, receipts, retries, and the whole life cycle of a subscription. $1.5K–$4K
Accounts and a private area Sign-up, permissions, password recovery and everything behind them. $2.5K–$6K

What it costs to keep it alive

A website is not furniture: it runs on software that gets security patches every month, and it sits out in the open on the internet. Hosting is inside all three plans, so there is no separate hosting bill. A 12-month initial term, renewing at the same price with no increase.

Essential

For a site that already does its job and just has to stay standing.

$59/month

paid month by month · 12-month initial term, no year up front

  • Hosting on our infrastructure, with the domain and the certificate renewing themselves
  • Daily backups, kept off the server, with 30 days of history
  • Security updates to the server and the site, applied and checked by a person
  • Checked every minute: if the site goes down, we know before you do
  • Malware scanning on every new or changed file
  • Forms protected against bots and spam
  • One content change a year included

What most people pick

Growth

For a site that moves with the business: hours, services, offers, staff.

$139/month

paid month by month · 12-month initial term, no year up front

Everything in the plan before, plus:

  • Four content changes a year, one a quarter
  • Quarterly check on speed and on what Google sees of your site
  • A one-page report each quarter: visits, forms received, what people searched for
  • Priority response: front of the queue

Complete

For businesses that actually publish: news, campaigns, new pages every month.

$259/month

paid month by month · 12-month initial term, no year up front

Everything in the plan before, plus:

  • One content change a month, whether you save it up or not
  • New pages when you need them, not just edits to the ones you have
  • A monthly review, with the improvements made and not just noted
  • A direct number, and a person who already knows your project

A "change" is one round of work on your content: adding a page, removing one, or rewriting it. It is not a typo or a phone number — we fix those when you ask and they do not count against anything.

Why two similar-looking sites do not cost the same

How many distinct templates there are

Twenty pages using three layouts cost far less than six pages with six layouts. What you pay for is the design and code of each template, not the number of URLs.

Who writes the content

If the copy and photos arrive finished, the project lands at the bottom of the range. If they have to be written and produced, it goes up — and this is the factor that moves the number most often.

What it has to talk to

A form that sends an email is an afternoon. A form that creates a customer in your ERP and issues an invoice is something else, and the difference is almost always in the other side’s documentation.

What happens when traffic arrives

A site with ten visits a day and one with ten thousand are not built the same way, even when they look the same. This gets decided at the start, or paid for twice.

And what you will never see on the invoice

  • Theme or page-builder licences: we do not use any.
  • A rush surcharge: if it does not fit the timeline we say so beforehand, we do not sell it more expensively.
  • A ransom for your own files: the site is yours, and you take the code and the domain whenever you want.
  • Hidden hosting margins: the plan fee is what the hosting costs.

Questions about price

How much does a website cost?

A custom business website is $2K–$4.5K and takes 3–5 weeks. A store is $4.5K–$9K. On top of that comes the care plan, from $59 a month, which includes hosting.

Why a range instead of a price?

Because the price depends on how many distinct templates there are and how much content has to be created, and neither is knowable before we talk. What is fixed is that after the call the price is agreed in writing and does not move.

Is the maintenance plan mandatory?

No, but it is what we recommend and what we do by default. A site with nobody maintaining it is not cheaper: it is unmaintained until the day it matters. If you would rather run it yourself, we hand over the whole thing and explain what needs updating.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. The usual split is one payment at kick-off and the rest on delivery, and long projects are split by phase. On the Illinois local programs the build itself sits inside the monthly fee and the site becomes yours at month 12.

What if I want to move to another provider?

You take the code, the database and the domain. There is no proprietary platform you cannot leave, and we do not charge an exit fee. A client who stays because they cannot leave is not a happy client.

Do the prices include tax?

No. The figures are before tax and in US dollars. Applicable taxes appear in the proposal, based on where your company is.
